Terms of Service

Welcome to Cinelect. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Cinelect website and app at cinelect.com ("Cinelect", "the Service", "we", "us"). Cinelect is a free service operated by an independent developer. By using Cinelect, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. What Cinelect is

Cinelect is a free group movie picker. You can create or join a shared room with friends or family, build a watchlist of films, nominate films, rank them, and let a scoring algorithm pick a winner. Cinelect is provided for personal, non-commercial use.

2. Who can use it

Cinelect is designed to work for the whole family. Anyone aged 5 and up can join a room and use the Service without creating an account, using only a room code and a display name. We recommend choosing a nickname rather than a full name for any display name that does not belong to an account holder, since it is visible to other members of the room. A parent or guardian should supervise use by young children.

Creating an account, by signing in with Google, Facebook, or an email address and password, is available only to people aged 13 and older. By creating an account, you confirm that you are at least 13 years old. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you should have a parent or guardian's permission to create an account.

3. Your account

You can use Cinelect anonymously, or sign in with Google, Facebook, or an email address and password. You are responsible for activity that happens under your account and for keeping your sign-in details secure. The display name and avatar you choose are visible to other members of any room you join.

4. Acceptable use

When using Cinelect, you agree not to:

Upload or display content (such as avatars, display names, or room names) that is illegal, infringing, hateful, harassing, or obscene.
Attempt to access data belonging to rooms or users you are not a member of.
Probe, scrape, overload, or disrupt the Service or the infrastructure it runs on.
Use the Service to break any law or to infringe anyone's rights.

We may remove content or suspend access that we reasonably believe violates these Terms.

5. Your content

You keep ownership of the content you add to Cinelect, such as your display name, avatar, room names, and the films you add to a watchlist. By adding content, you grant us a limited license to store and display it within the Service so it can function (for example, showing your avatar to other members of your room). You are responsible for the content you add and confirm you have the right to share it.

6. Third-party services

Cinelect relies on third-party services to operate, and your use of Cinelect is also subject to their terms:

Google Firebase provides sign-in, the database, and file storage.
Google and Facebook provide optional sign-in.
The Movie Database (TMDB) and OMDb provide movie information and ratings.

This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB. We do not control these services and are not responsible for them.

7. Availability and "as is" service

Cinelect is provided free of charge, "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not promise that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, or that any data you add will be preserved. We may change, suspend, or discontinue the Service, in whole or in part, at any time without notice.

8. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Cinelect and its operator will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any loss of data, arising out of or related to your use of the Service. Because Cinelect is provided free of charge, you use it at your own risk.

9. Termination

You can stop using Cinelect at any time, leave or delete rooms, and request deletion of your data as described in our Privacy Policy. We may suspend or end your access if you violate these Terms or if we discontinue the Service.

10. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of Cinelect after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws applicable in the operator's principal place of residence, without regard to its conflict of law rules.
